This is a review for the OLD mascara base! I was going to repurchase this but they have changed the formula... this was my HG for my short thin lashes. :(
This is a gray-clear base that helps lengthen and volumize my lashes, and keep a curl. It looks so nice even when I put on just the base! This has helped with the wear and appearance of my mascara, making my drugstore mascaras look even more fantastic. It also makes it so that mascara doesn't make my lashes stiff and crunchy. I really loved this mascara base and will use very last bit of it!

LOVE THIS. It lengthens my lashes and keeps the curl in tact. I have asian lashes- they're short & straight, and i've never had luck keeping it k=curled. this however made my lashes look so much longer. for volume i use estee lauder's volume mascara and that + shiseidos mascara base make my lashes so much better. LOVE this product. so for anyone who has asian lashes and want length, i HIGHLY recommend this product continued >>

FYI to all - It look like this specific product has been discontinued and now the only mascara base Shieseido makes is called the Nourishing mascara base and it DOES have a different formula.

After I tried the new Shiseido Mascara Base, I think it's as good or even better than the old one and definitely better than the new Dior Base. I was using the old formula for years, because nothing else would keep my lashes curled when putting on mascara. Before I got the new base I tried the new Dior Maximizer Base Serum, but it didn't hold the curl that well. Would buy again.

Oh my goodness, this product is amazing as everyone on here says!
I have straight Asian lashes and after wearing this my curl stays all day and my eyes look so much bigger.
One of my good friends even asked me the other day if I got eyelash extensions! The other day I put on fake eyelashes on top of my eyelashes for a wedding, and it made such little difference because my eyelashes looked great already.
I use one coat, then one coat of Dior iconic mascara (I like this for lengthening), then one coat of Benefit's bad gal lash (for thickening)... and this stays ALL Day!
Just remember to curl your eyelashes well before you apply it.
My picture was taken 8 hours after I used it.

I agree with the more recent reviewers. I have been using mascara base for years and love how well it thickened and lengthened. The new formula and brush are no where near as good as the original. I wonder why Shiseido would choose to change a product that was clearly well received. What a dissappointment. It still keeps a curl but definitely doesn't perform well in the thickening and lengthening departments. Shiseido should bring back its old formula and brush!
Anyone have better luck with other primers?

Hi ladies. Sorry to say but they changed the product. (Agreeing with reviewer below.)
The old formula - thickened and lengthened my lashes, was really difficult to wash off, but, when applied with Mabelline Full and Soft Mascara, looked almost like falsies.
The new formula - lengthens but doesn't really thicken. No wow factor. I could keep layering on this primer without spider lashes and it's easier to wash off. Still keeps a curl. Might buy again but will want to look into other mascara primers. The new formula is NOT better.

I SO agree with Goldenstar. I went to Macys to buy my 4th tube of my once HG Shiseido lash primer and the sales gal told me they changed the formula and wand. They didn't have any of the old formulation left so I bought the new one and it is PATHETIC! It's thin and watery, the wand does nothing to deposit the product and I get no lengthening, thickening, NOTHING! Shiseido, what were you thinking??? Now I am forced to find a new HG lash primer...any suggestions?

They changed the formula, and now this once HG product is sub-par. I'm SO disapointed! I've been using this for years, and now I have to search other brands for a base.

It almost took kerosene to get this crap off my lashes.

This is the only thing that makes my lashes stay curled all day. I cannot live without this product! There is no point on putting on mascara without this primer for me. Shiseido came out with an improved version which I've got to buy. Just waiting for it to be released in the UK. Yes this is expensive but it's a good investment!

This is one of my products that I absolutely cannot live without! I have short and stick straight asian lashes and this mascara helps hold the curl perfectly and all day long! It's not too difficult either to remove either, nothing more than a cotton ball and some eye makeup remover. Love it!

HG!! I try to play up my eyes and love the "natural eye makeup with long, curled lashes" look. Other mascaras in the past either clumped, were difficult to remove, or didn't hold that curl my naturally long lashes needed. I decided to purchase this stuff, which is now marketed as "Nourishing Mascara Base". It lives up to all my expectations and more. My eyelashes hold that "just used an eyelash curler" look all day long. It doesn't clump AT ALL, lengthens just a little (you can build it up), and it's clear. You can wear this with or without mascara. Right now, I wear a volumizing mascara over it and it works out wonderfully. No flakes, easy to remove when using eyemakeup remover. I definitely will be repurchasing this stuff again. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a strong curl, with just a little bit of extra length to their natural lashes.

honestly, i saw the reviews on here before i bought it, and i was like, what the hell, i might as well try it.
I bought it for around $24 including tax, which is kinda expensive since i'm only 15.
and i'm korean with stick straight lashes, so i was pretty skeptic at first. i didn't see much of a difference at first, but i got it and i think the base realllly made a difference. i had put just mascara and curled on one eye, and kept my base, mascara, and curled on the other. and the lashes with the shiseido base can be seen more and a lot more evenly distributed. (or maybe its because i didn't curl my 'just mascara' eye well enough)
my advice is, DON'T GET THE SHISEIDO MASCARA. just get the base and use another mascara you might have. (the mascara i use is Projectionist from Estee Lauder and Covergirl's lashblastlength)
and probably get the shiseido curler. i heard it works wonders and i'm going to get it tomorrow. i'll probably write a review on that too.
so just try the base. if you don't like it, you can just not buy it again, but i would. it might not be a huge drastic change to how your eyelashes look, but it does make mine show more when i curl it. so don't get your hopes too high, or you won't like the Shiseido Makeup Mascara Base.
But honestly, who needs instructions to apply mascara? haha. VV

OMG! I have tried a few mascara bases, but this one is THE BEST!!! It separates my eyelashes, volumizes and lengthens them so well, they look fake after I apply my mascara. I am going to buy this over and over again! It is a bit pricey but totally worth it. HG!

I stumbled across this amazing base whilst flicking through some mascara reviews here one day and decided to try it out. Boy am i glad i did! I have short sparse lashes so after curling them, I apply a very light coat of base and it holds up magnificently all day. It takes seconds to dry so i put on mascara straight away or it may be awkward to apply.
Even with my mediocre mascara, the final look is great, and worth the price although it is a bit steep.

Dont see the hype about thhis product at all! It comes without instructions so have had to play around with it. Makes my lashes look clumpy and spidery! Not a good look......
Ended up loving this product and got so many complimets1 Such a shame they discontinued it.

I bought my Shishedo Mascara Base in December, and it has become an integral part of my everyday and every night make up routine.
When I first opened the tube, I thought I got a used one! It was a mucky colored gray! I got so pissed, but then read a few reviews that this is how it comes. Phew. So, its not the prettiest stuff, but it works miracles.
Im asian, my lashes are naturally not the fullest or longest, but this product changes it all! It provides an amazing base for the mascara to cling on to. It makes them fuller, and longer, and it is the only product that has proven to hold a curl till I take it off! It holds the mascara and does not run or smear. But they still stay soft.
The one time I attempted to use mascara without My Beloved Base, I immediately regretted it! I cant live without this product and its a shame, its a little on the expensive side, but now im hooked. Theres nothing I can do to un-know its greatness!
